I'm afraid I'll get food poisoning. It doesn't say an expiration date and I don't know when I bought them.

Well not exactly but they can get 'freezer burn' which is NOT healthy to eat.

Meat should always been stored long term in vaccum sealed pouches and deep frozen. NEVER leave meat in the little refrigerator's freezer for longer than 21 days.

Why?

Refrigertor Freezers pull mositure out of your food as they cycle on and off to be 'frost free'. Ever notice how ice cream has that 'runny look' to it? That's freezer burnt. Throw it away!

Get a deep freezer unit and fill it up and keep it COLD. You want ice crystals to form on the meat. But remember too, if you vacuum seal your meat, it can last up to a year and a half (generally) in a deep freeze without any ill side effects.

Not very quickly I'm sure! Are the burgers cooked or raw? Raw frozen burgers will taste better after you cook them than precooked ones -which will tend to dry out and get tough no matter how tightly they are sealed. It depends on the temperature of your freezer too. Most people's will run around 260 K. but I know ours runs at 254 K. and hamburger will keep for months at that temperature so I'd say your beef is probably safe!

*260 K is about 10 deg. F

**254 K is about -3 deg. F

Sorry about the weird temperatures!

They give the expiration date for various types of foods - whether frozen or fresh. According to them frozen burgers expire after 4 months; so, if you had it around that long - throw it out.

most frozen meat that is protected from air and constantly frozen is good for up to and even over 1 year. I buy my beef 1/2 cow at a time from my butcher who kills and ages it for 2 weeks, then cuts it up, vacuum packs it, and freezes it. The killer for meat is air and non-constant temperatures, such as a small refrigerator freezer that defrosts often.

Cook one and see what happens, then you will know. But as always, the main rule is: "if in doubt, throw it out".

Maybe I've never tried frozen burgers if it doesn't have an expiration date then it probably doesn't

Almost all products (food) sold have a "sell by" date to ensure freshness, etc....if you have kept the burgers frozen about the only problem is that they may taste freezer burnt or just generally nasty from being old. They aren't going to kill you.
However, it sounds like these particular burgers have you worked up into a tizzy so you'll probably get sick just from worrying about them. Best to toss and ease your mind.
