There are many different religions, many different categories. Monotheistic, deistic, etc. I would suggest looking at religioustolerance.org for a good list of, and unbiased explanation of what each is based on.

There are thousands of religions and tens of thousands of old religions that are now gone and forgotten along with the thousands of gods they worshipped. Modern religions and gods will go the same way as the ancient religions and new religions and gods will emerge. It is the way of things. Every religion thinks it is the one true religion. Either all are correct or none are. My view is that no religion is correct but if you want to believe that yours is, feel free to do so. You will be no different from the billions of believers in thousands of religions before you.
