Ever since I was a little girl I have been prone to nervousness and anxiety. I felt nauseous and lightheaded before recitals and big events in my life. Now I am 30 years old and still experiencing this. I can hardly travel sometimes, or drive long distances, because I get butterflies in my stomach so bad. Lately, I've been waking up every morning with a nervous stomach - for no reason at all! It's getting to where I feel constant anxiety all of the time and it's hard to live like this. Sometimes I can't eat or take care of my children well because I feel so horrible. The only way I can ease it a little is to take anti-nausea meds like Dramamine or Phenergan but how do I get rid of the underlying problem - NERVES? Please help! What kind of a doctor should I see about this problem? Am I going to have to get on medication? I hate taking drugs.

You may have a condition called Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms can be easily treated with psychotropic medications such as Klonopin or Xanax. You will feel much calmer and they take the edge off. If you've used your medical doctor for a long period of time, he may prescribe this medication for you if you explain to him your symptoms and concerns. Otherwise, he may recommend for you a psychiatrist and be willing to set up an appointment through his office. Good luck. You will be fine, more people experience this problem than you may realize.
