best to hook it into the fuse box, there should be a empty slot in it that says (Bat), this is where you want to hook your yellow wire, you will probably have to put a connector end on the yellow wire to be able to plug it in.

The yellow wire has to be connected to a source of voltage that isn't turned on and off by the key switch. Right now it's connected to a voltage source that turns off with the switch, which is why you're having a problem.

The thing is, the wire you need should be in your factory radio wiring already (unless you have a VERY old Malibu). I'm guessing that you have the yellow wire from the Sony connected to a yellow wire in the car's harness? In a GM, the yellow power wire is key-switched and should be connected to the red wire from the Sony deck. The constant power wire in a Malibu should be orange. There should be one in the wire bundle behind the radio; if that doesn't work, there's another one going to the cigarette lighter.

I'm betting that you just have the constant and switched power connections reversed.

what you need to do the yellow wire on the radio needs to go to what is known as constant power meaning the car battery itself do not worry it will not run the battery dead it uses very little power it is just there to hold the clock and memory by 12v terminal the are referring to the positive terminal on your battery he can also try using a volt meter and checking the fuse box and seeing what spots on the fuse box have power with the car off and hook it there

anywhere under the dash, where you can tap into +12 volts.
the black wire (ground) can be fastened to any metal surface
under the dash. Just remember if the metal surface is painted, you have to scrape the paint off in order to get a good electrical connection.

12 volts means the car battery happens to be 12 volts.
