This is why you don't let friends drive your car! I don't believe your story by the way. You have to watch out for those speeding cars that run you off the road then drive off in a distance. Sounds like what really happened is you messed up and think you have a good excuse. Drive Safe! "I called 911 and we found the license plate" You state you got hit from a speeder then they drove off. Some how you managed to get a plate number when all you saw were 2 distant headlights? Insurance people will be able to tell if you hit something or if someone hit you, personally I don't believe you. Let me guess, you're claiming it's not your fault so you don't owe your friend the money for the damage. No insurance is going to cover the damage so (s)he will have to eat the damage because you thought you were clever and came up with a bogus lie. Once again never let your friends drive your car because of people like this.

Misdemeanor hit and run. Fines and penalties depend on the state it happened in. Must have been some sign if it knocked your license plate off.

Probably the pole shaped dents in the front of the car would give him away.

depends whos sign it is... maybe destruction of government property?... well they cant prove from the plate that you hit the sign, only that you lost your plate near the sign... but if you try to deny it and they have other evidence itll be worse.

Niot much but talk with them just the same. You may have to pay for the sign depending on the circumstances.

Failure to control.
Leaving the scene of an accident.

I would expect to lose your license and owe some money.

Obstruction of property and leaving the scene of a crime. Depending on your reason for leaving, will determine your sentence.....if no one was hurt, i see you getting a fine.
