I went to a catholic primary school and although the general standard of education was good i would have to ask you please don't, they make you feel guilty about things that are normal and the punishments maybe unusual to say the least, they force their beliefs on you and questioning/curiosity is not always encouraged, in an ideal world send your child to a school that will inform them of all aspects of our multicultural society and encourage your child to seek his/her own belief system.

I think that Catholic school is a good idea. I have been going to one since preschool and I am now in 8th grade. I think that Catholic schools are more strict than private schools because we are supposed to act as Jesus did and public schools don't necessarily expect that. I know lots of public school kids that act better than Catholic school kids and are nicer. I think that there are a lot of private school kids that are kind of stuck-up and when our school plays a public school in any sport, I know that there are many remarks from either school. Once, at a basketball game, the team we were playing against was laughing during our prayer we say before every game. I think that no matter if you're Catholic or not, Catholic school is a good experience for your children.

Education for your children. There are many factors to consider when choosing a school system.

Are you religious? The Catholic school will teach your children the beliefs of the Catholic church. You must be committed and participate. This can be a very good partnership.

Always check the standardized test scores. This will tell you how the students at this school compare to students at other schools throughout the nation. If they are not willing to give you this information, they are obviously not proud of the results.

If you are talking about Catholic high school, find out what the percentage of students go on to college. It would be important to me to see how involved they are in the community and what their policies are regarding athletic participation.

I would ask questions concerning diversity. How accepting are they, and how do they deal with bullying and discrimination? Are they not only tolerant of other than the traditional "mother and father" households, but embrace all loving families?

In my opinion:

Catholic schools in the United States provide a very good moral and religious base for children. As a rule they are also safer than public schools.

Educationally, most of them are above average. Although some are exceptionally good and a very few are bad. Your school or the diocese should have some test scores for comparison.

In general, Catholic schools do a good job with average and above average kids.

However the resources of most Catholic schools in the United States are limited. If students need extra attention due to being way over or way under average, then their needs may not be properly met.

With love in Christ.

I think that regardless of what you think about the catholic religion, the morals and values are good and important for kids. I mean in the early grades, there's not much catholic doctrine being taught, it's more like 'God is your friend, He loves you' and stuff about how to lead a Christian life like don't judge others, help those in need.
Also, in my city, the Catholic Schools have more money, the teachers and support staff are paid more, the equipment/textbooks are in better shape. My kids are in public scholl and their school supply list is a mile long, whereas my friends' kids who are in catholic school are only asked to supply 1 box of kleenex or bottle of Purell

I've worked for both private and catholic schools. In my opinion both schools offered a good education, however there were more "extras" offered at the private such as music...etc. There was also alot more parent participation in private schools which seemed to give more of a community feel to the school.

Dumb kids. Catholic schools hardly teach anything other than shut your trap when mum beats you with a rake so the neighbors don't call the cops. Either that or listen to every adult there is around you!
