Your own religions permit it? No religious scripture of the three scriptures of Christians, Jews and Hindus stop from polygamy.
In earlier times, Christians were permitted to have as many wives as they wished, since the Bible puts no restriction to the number of wives. It was only a few centuries ago the Church restricted the number of wives to one.
Polygamy is permitted in Judaism. According to Talmudic law, Abraham had three wives, Solomon had hundreds of wives. The practice of polygamy was continued until Rabbi Gershom ben Yehudah issued an edict against it.
Earlier, there was no restriction on the Hindu men in respect to the number of wives. It was only in 1954, when the Hindu Marriage Act was passed that it became illegal for a Hindu to have more than one wife. Many Hindu religious personalities, according to their scriptures, had multiple wives. Krishna had several wives while King Dashrat (Father of Rama) had more than one wife.
So none of the holy books stop you from polygamy.

I want to say, that only Islam limits wives to four, and that is for women themselves. Average female population is more than male population,so if every male marries one woman, it means definitely some excess women will be left out (some as in four million excess women in Great Britain, five million in Germany and nine million in Russia), who will have to become prostetutes, right/ So is it better to give them safer and secure homes, rather than make them worthy of being onyl chunks of meat?

Hey Atheists!
Of course, you're your own master and don't care about a Holy Book.
So don't waste your bad words in insulting something you don't even believe in.
No offense, but if I were an atheist, I'd worry about getting human rights and not insultign humans.

Umm...Muslims don't necessarily always implement Islam fully in their lives. I'm a woman, and I won't follow this religion if I didn't believe in it.

I shouldn't be, but I'll answer your accusations anyways.
Sir, I have no argument with you since you think on a different level. Because of that, our logic cannot be leveled.
Madam, polyandry is dangerous for a woman. It's like saying why don't men start having kids instead of women. It's how the women and men are, thus, according to their biological needs they should behave so. A polyandrous woman will definitely find it difficult to manage dual marriages. It is scientifically proven that women have mod swings and fluctuations due to menstrual cycles and make illogical decisions many a times (hence cat fights). Therefore, they may be more messed up in a marriage. Women also do not have as strong a sexual desire as a man's. A woman has a higher cahnce or attaining or transmitting sexually transmitted diseases.

Do forgive, but Abraham did not have Hagar as a maid. She was a princess/similar position, and married him on insistence of Sarah.

why do you assume I do?
polygamy was never encouraged in the Bible. the first polygamist was the son of Cain, who was an immoral man (Cain and his son were immoral). every man in the Bible who was a polygamist ended up with problems concerning sexual relations. good examples: King David, King Solomon
"if a man desires the office of a bishop, he must be the husband of one wife". polygamy is good?
Abraham had one wife (Sarai/Sarah), but had a "concubine": Hagar, his maid, who gave birth to Ishmael
do you consider Solomon to be a moral man? Solomon was wise in governing Israel, not his own matters...
check your facts on the "Christians are allowed to have multiple wives" thing. multiple wives were discouraged and there is no NT case to my knowledge in which a righteous man had more than one wife. hence the quote above.
the Bible stops us from it. don't read so shallowly....

Even in the Prophet's household, he has wives problem. There was this one time when they raged him with nags and what have u. He took refuge in the mosque for a month. So women are generally like that. If the prophet couldnt escape it, how cud we? Yes, in some polygamous marriage, women are maltreated and injusticed upon. And that person will have to answer to Allah. He is All-Knowing. But in some marriages. They are treated right. They are just blinded by jealousy and with the hatred of sharing her man with another woman. Like in my country, what we call the other wife(ves) of your father is "Enemy" (that is what it means in English). It is the universally accepted word. So you know there has to be some fight. A man is more prone to commit adultery than a woman. He is the one that goes out regularly. That is one of the reasons of polygamy in Islamic culture. With four, I think adultery is out of the question. Another reason is that women are many in numbers. The mortality rate of a man is way higher. So if to say one man to one wife, a lot more will have no husband. And trust me, half a loaf is better than none. Thank you for respecting our religion. Peace.

Christians usually have more than one wife, they just do it serially. This is accomplished through divorce, annulments
and like those kings ( Henry ) and others they use murder to get rid of that which they no longer desire. Woman have been known to turn to murder also to get rid of an unwanted spouse.
Even though their holy book says a divorced woman is not
marriageable, this is ignored. They'll usually say such is from the old testament and is no longer valid. They conveniently forget that the the Ten commandments resides there also.
Have a pleasant day.

What a lunatic. You claim "extra" women who can't find a husband go all crazy and must become prostitutes?
Islam has nothing but the deepest of disrespect towards women, treating them as chattel property according to the ancient ways of the Arabian desert. They are often declared "women" at a young age so pedophiles can have sex with them:
Bukhari vol. 5, nos. 236 "The Prophet...married Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age and consummated that marriage when she was nine years old."
So I'm having nothing to do with a religion for pedophiles or started by one.

Other religions no longer permit polygamy, to my knowledge (I'm an atheist).
Your assertion that "...some excess women will be left out ... who will have to become prostetutes, right/ So is it better to give them safer and secure homes, rather than make them worthy of being onyl chunks of meat?" is absurd. Women don't have to be married to have their own home. Women are quite capable of taking care of themselves.
If you think it's okay to treat prostitutes like "chunks of meat," you are one sick individual.
Any system that sets up rules for all to follow, that treats people as anything other than individuals, is not worth being part of. Islam, as with other religions, gets too involved with how people behave, think, dress, eat, etc. That's one of my problems with religion. All religions.

I'm all for polygamy only if one woman can have several husbands also. If it's limited to just the men then that religion is chauvinistic and is only concerned with taking away power from women. Religions like that smell like rotten eggs.

Most Muslim societies even forbid females from attending school and voting.
My sect (LdS) practiced polygamy until the 1890s. Yet in Utah Territory women had the right to vote long before the Women's Suffrage Movement back east (the Edmunds-Tucker Act revoked women's rights to vote in Utah Territory until polygamy was abolished). Utah Territory also afforded females the best education available west of the Mississippi. Polygamy is only a problem if the plural wives are taken forcibly or if the husband is abusive.

Of all of the, in my opinion, extremely disgusting attitudes of islam against women, polygamy is one of the least important. Is this the best you can do, or do you believe that this is the only reason that people think that the attitude of islam against women is disgusting?

What holy books? Oh, you mean those books written by MEN that think of women as property.
I don't care what any book says.
I am an individual unto myself. I am no man's property.
I am not an atheist. Please don't make assumptions about someone you know nothing about.
