Are you complaining about the party of the date? The magic isn't in the calendar, it's in your own ability to effect a change in your own life. Or not. Maybe the point is just to have a good time.
Edit: Interesting...two people shilling n/y in Scotland...must check into that.
Edit: Holy smokes, I just checked my calendar and noticed you're either sweating this thing six and a months too early (way too early to sweat anything) or clinging to something that's been over for five and a half months - let it go.

Dude, at my house we ALWAYS have a great, big party.
But the party is not the reason FOR the party.
A new year offers new beginnings. New hope. New chances of things to come. I know it is an artificial construct, a man-made way of ordering the universe. However, it gives you a chance to let things go and hope for new ones. You can then say, about your failures, "That was LAST year...THIS year will be different, because I will make it different."

Come up to Scotland! (like someone else said)
My boyfriend came up for hogmanay last year/ this year. He said it was one of the most memorable! Well... kinda!
I still have a mark on my wrist from falling over though! Haha.
The only bad thing about new years is the hangover after! I was dying this year!

I personally don't celebrate Christmas and have a major celebration for New Years. "Rubbish"? Think about it-a whole year has gone by, and soon the next year will approach. Why not celebrate?

I know what you mean. I've either had to work or spend the night on courtesy hold in a detention center. Sucks.

Exactly, it's expectations that are the problem. Every time I've said, "Screw it, I'm just going to hang out with a couple friends and do nothing" I've had a blast. There's a real "MUST... HAVE.... MORE.... FUN.... THAN.... HUMANLY.... POSSIBLE" attitude, and that just ruins it.

completely agree, it's always a disapointment and then the next day you start the new year being sick and puking your guts out.
