Jesus (PBUH) told his disciples that they must be born again.
Buddha told his disciples that they must be twice born.

Are they telling their disciples the same thing?

There seems to be a long time lag between the two!

They both reflect the theme of renewal. Renewal is terribly important in religion; it sets aside the idea that we are fixed, immutable, and teaches us that change begins with what we intend to do.

The first birth we have no role in, other than being the subject of it. Rebirth is chosen, which is why it is so terribly important. Will you become what you wish to be? Or let fate decide for you?
