My kiiten has fleas, and tomorrow it is going to start living in the house! :-) But it has to have a flea bath and collar before coming in. Can I buy something that you put in the water to get rid of fleas (like from Wal-Mart) or something? Do your cats wear flea collars and do thay work? She is about 3-4 months old or somewhere around there.

P.S. Tomorrow she is having her first visit to the vet!

Well, at this first visit to the vet, I would get Advantage, or whatever the vet recommends for fleas. You will get rid of the fleas alot quicker. I would never put an animal in flea baths, I did that once with a cat. This cat ended up having a skin problem! I wouldn't mess around with the flea collars you can get at Walmart, or any other store either. They just do not work! They are a money thing, really. I would, definately get the Advantage or whatever. It'll be worth the money in the long run. Good luck.

Get the flea shampoo from Wal-Mart. Lather up the cat and wait about five minutes before rinsing. I don't like flea collars and neither do my cats. If you use one, make sure the cat can get out of the collar if it were to get caught on something. They are kind of dangerous. You could instead by some of the flea drops their too. Get the kind that works for all stages of fleas and put it on the back of their neck about every month. There is also the better stuff you get at the vet that only needs to be applied every three months.

As far as I have ever seen , flea collars are a wast of money !
give her a flea bath with flea soap that is safe for kittens ( not all is) and ask the vet for Advantex or something simular. Also make sure to treat your yard or where she has been staying, unless the cat is at a diffrent location than your house.

This is gonna sound wierd, but once she's in the house...

get a big deep bowl, and put a candle in the middle of it.

Fill the bowl with sugar water, then light the candle.

What happens is the flea's go for the sugar water, jump for the light... then it burns their legs off and they drown in the water.

Seriously, try it. I usually do it at night, and just let the candle burn out... but it will get rid of some of them, and you'll have a little flea cemetary in the water in the morning.

Put a towel in the bathtub, then place about two inches of warm water in the tub. Have gloves on if it scratches you, and put about two cap fulls of Head and Shoulders in the water. Use a plastic cup to clean the cat and have two towels ready for drying. The kitten should be alright until vet time then they will put stuff on it and a collar also. If you have a good vet like mine, then they will not charge you for the treatments because it is a kitten.

Don't get something cheap and irritating from Wal-Mart or Target. Please go to your vet and get a topical flea product to put on your kitten. It works and is worth the expense, unless you want your house to be taken over by fleas.
