You just don't know much about Christians do you? 1. They have no personal power different from any other human. 2. We can only appeal to the power of a loving God. 3. Our prayers always must be aligned with His nature and will in order to be considered by Him. 4. A prayer is not just asking for something. It's a lot more. Think about a child that only talks to a parent to ask or demand something he wants. What kind relationship is that? We talk to God about all sorts of things besides just asking for something. He is our best Friend and Confidante, our Father and Warrior. 5.The prayers of Christians are the most unselfish communications there are. If you only knew how many requests go out for circumstances of others in the course of a day. 6. Nobody has God in a jar 7.The only reason the world isn't left in utter destruction is because of the presence of the Christians in the world, and one day they will be gone and then the world will know what suffering really is. God is long suffering, willing to give the lost a chance to come to Him before He begins the destruction. World peace is on the menu but not til all the evil of this world is destroyed. 8. As for your smoking, you have to commit to that yourself and possibly seek help with a group or your doctor. Christians will pray for you on that account if you let them know......I will myself.

Using our "powers" for good, such as building hospitals, helping refugees, feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, working with the mentally disabled and assisting people with the cost of funerals they can't afford? My church has been there and done that, and for centuries. However, you're right in asserting that even more could be done, and for that, as a Christian, I apologize. I personally try to help in these (and other) areas, but feel overwhelmed that there's only so much that one person can do, which is why I don't have a problem with interdenominational (or interfaith) charitable projects. The more of us that band together, the more we can do. Again, I do think that we could do more, and for that, we likely deserve a certain amount of criticism. However, my church has always preferred a "hands on" approach over mere prayer. Positive thinking alone doesn't put one single meal on the table for the hungry. It takes direct effort.

Christians do not have power. Only God has the power to stop the war. Let us all pray fervently that He will.
Why hasn't He yet? Because He has to convince a lot of criminals to stop the killing. Only God can save us. Let's pray.

The only power Christians have is God's power within. Without Christ we can do nothing. When we pray, we are to pray for God's will to be done. Check out www.3abn.org

Nice broad brush that you painted with.
Just so you know, I do pray for the bigger issues. In fact, I pray more for others than for myself. It took a few years for me to realize that when I pray for others, more of my prayers are answered "yes."
As to world peace, I already know that until Christ returns, and establishes His kingdom on it, there won't be any. I still pray about it, but my expectations are limited to periods of peace, as opposed to a long-lasting one.

soarius put it beautifully. A great many good people are doing already a great deal. Always more needs to be done, but so much can be done. I am glad your prayer was answered.
Smile and be happy.

Christians do not have anymore powers than I do. Mark 16 is ridiculous.

Seems like the big ones that would actually show the power of prayer is beyond their power.
