I detest summer in NYC. The beach is much better for July(and that is what they call it in Ocean County where you are talking about - not the shore). I recommend Point Pleasant or even a bed & breakfast in Spring Lake (Monmouth County) for an anniversary. Seaside Heights is not very romantic. Seaside Park, however is a residential beach town a mile south of Seaside Heights and that is nicer. Or you can stay in Seaside Heights and go to the beach at Island Beach State Park. Go down to the last beaches 20/21 and the beach will be nearly empty. Plus, you can picnic, bring a dog and play games if you like. The other beaches are much more crowded. If you do decide to go to New York, the good thing about going in the summer is you won't have problems getting into good restaurants because everyone is in the Hamptons.

In july, I would recommend the beach. It's going to be way too hot in NY to enjoy much in the way of walking around, sightseeing, etc.
But go to Point Pleasant, not seaside. You can alwasy hit Seaside at night if you like the boardwalk, but it really isn't a very nice beach and the crowd is a little 'skanky'. I also think you can find a nicer little quaint bed and breakfast at Pt Pleasant if you're looking for something a bit romantic.

Hi, actually I drive this trip couple of times a week, as I live close to seaside hights and have something to do in Manhattan, usually I do George Washington Bridge ---> NJ Turnpike South ---> take exit 11 to Garden State Parkway South ---> Till exit 82B, which is Seaside Hights, but friday afternoon, I would take NJ Turnpike to GSP exit 123, to RT 9 south, as this might be better that GSP, at the time U indicated, hope this help

NYC and spend one day at Jones Beach. To get to Jones Beach, take the Long Island Railroad at Penn Station, 34th and Seventh, to Freeport or Wantagh. There are buses there that takes right to the beach and back to the train station.

They are two totally different places. The city in the summer can be pretty brutal though, so you might want to go to the beach...but really one has nothing to do with the other. I guess save the city for fall or winter

What do you want out of the trip. They're such totally different places, but both a lot of fun! I like NYC for the history.
