I have a female cat (about 1 year old), white hair. She has always had a thin covering of hair on her ears, compared to her brother (black haired), or maybe I just notice it more as it's white hair.

I have noticed over the last number of weeks that the hair on the white cat is disappearing from her ears and her ears are very pink (always a little pink, but now quite noticeable).

What could be causing this and should I be worried?

My cats are out all the time, except at night I lock them in the shed (with food, water & a bed), because other cats seem to attack my male cat (black one) at night, have had him at the vet a few times.

I hope it's not cancer, the poor thing, I will bring her to the vet in the morning. She won't let me touch her ears, then again she has never been a cat that likes comfort, took her months just to let me rub her back, compared to the male who is like a baby.

Vet it will be in the morning.

Get her to a vet when you can.

I had a friend whose cats started losing their hair because they had been poisoned.

Also, keep an eye out for any differences in behavior. When you get your cat to the vet, ask about all of this.

I have to say it does sound like a description of skin cancer. This is very common in cats with white ears.

Don't be too horrified though, this is probably one of the less serious cancers. It certainly can be treated - it may involve removal of the tips of your cat's ears to stop the cancer spreading, but that's not so terrible?

Sounds to me like your cat may have allergies. Our dog is white and he has the same thing. It's the pink pigment of their skin. It is very sensitive. Just give it some non-drowsy allergy medicine. If you want to be more sure take the cat to the vet.

White cats can get sunburnt like people. She may just have been in the sun too much. If it's that the vet will soon sort it out.

this will sound really bizarre, but she could be getting sunburnt. White cats are particularly prone to skin cancers, and because their ears are particularly delicate, they are the first place to be affected.
Take her to your vet to get it checked out, if she has cancer, they can remove it quickly and easily, if it is just sunburn, they may advise either keeping her out of the sun, or using a sunblock.

White cats should have their ears protected against the sun's UV if they are allowed outside. Skin cancer is quite common in this moggy.
