I don't think it will hurt - as I have seen them left on loading docks for periods of time - best to get them in where cool asap. Because of carbonation, I do believe the can can explode or go flat.

Funny timing of this one...my husband noticed I had a couple of unopened soda cans in my car yesterday and told me I'd better take them out (it gets up to 115 outside in summer here in Northern California) before they explode in the car. So, this morning, before heading out, I took them out and put them on our "junk" car sitting in our driveway and was going to put them back in the fridge after I got home, but forgot about them. This evening I went outside and noticed the soda streaks on the junk car, so asked my husband what happened (fully expecting that one of my toddler boys had gotten a hold of them). Come to find out, 2 of the 3 cans had exploded from being in the sun/heat. Keep in mind it was only 102 degrees here today. So, the answer is yes, they go bad, in a very bad way! As far as being left in the heat, my hubby works for 7Up, and they have a big warehouse, and the products are stored there, and there is no problem in the summer time (it's indoors/shade). So, being left in your garage would be fine, but in your car/in the sun, bad idea.

Artificial sweetener in diet soda can break down and go bad in sunlight and heat. Throw them out.
By the way, you will see them on loading docks, at gas stations and at convenience stores but it doesn't mean they're any good.
They look at the date on the can and figure 3-6 months is okay and either are ignorant of the fact above or don't care because they need to make a profit.

Nah, just chill it back down. Remeber it is at about 180degF when they fill the can. I have had cans pop the tops in a car though. hard to explain to a cop why your car smells like beer.
