I sure have, many times, even gave them a meal, or handed them a sandwich, gave them $20 or more, let them bathe in my shower and wash their clothes in my washer. Once I even asked when the last time was they ate in a restaurant...and then took the person to a restaurant to eat dinner. Another time a walker-by bum helped me fix my car and I gave him a tip (enough to buy dinner).

I had a neighbor once who said he handed a bum some money, saw the guy go buy a bottle of booze and head out back. The neighbor went out back and joined him in a drink.

Yes. Then the police where watching from across the road and thought I was drug-dealing, questioned me for about 15mins, and I swore not to be charitable ever again. I only gave him a cigarette and £2.
Even charity is questioned nowadays, trust me, it's not a good idea.
