They simple do not believe in God or a higher power.

In Greek, "a"=no, and "theos'=gods. True atheists believe in no gods at all. Atheism say nothing about other beliefs per se. There are implications, of course. Agnostics are not certain if gods exist or not. Polytheists believe in many gods. Monotheists believe in only one god. Henotheists believe in many gods but say one is supreme. Moses was one. Pantheists believe in a creating force in nature. Deists say a god created the universe so that it can operate without him and does nothing further in it. Many of our Founding Fathers had this belief. Washington, Adams, Paine and Franklin did. Jefferson had this belief but became an atheist.

An Atheist does not believe in God, any God. There are Atheists who have other superstitious beliefs, but by far, the majority of Atheists believe only in the natural. To us, the supernatural is just foolish superstition.
We do not believe in Santa Clause, the tooth fairy, wood sprites, gods, angels, devils, evil eye, spells, curses, magic, zombies, psysics, fortune tellers, etc. Get the idea ? all of those are unnatural, they're supernatural, they're superstition.

An atheist doesn't believe in a god. That's pretty much it; they may or may not believe in lots of other things. The only thing we have in common is the lack of belief in a god.

Atheists don't believe in any god. That's all you need to do to fit the definition. There's no overarching organization, no creed, and no requirement of similarity of view beyond that.
A typical atheist sees the Christian God described in the Bible as just as real as the Tooth Fairy or Peter Pan or Voldemort.

You got it right. We just don't believe in a deity. Any deity.
So, just like you probably don't believe in Zeus or Thor, we're right there with you. Except, we feel theh same way about your god as you do about Zeus and Thor.
There is not one shred of evidence or proof that any supernatural magic has ever taken place... well, maybe since the big bang.
