I've never had curtains that matched the carpet. I've always had beige carpet, so the curtains could be any color, and I usually pick bright, colorful ones to even out the drabness of the neutral colored carpet.
If this is a question about, uh, hair, I'd say it's not mandatory. In my case, my curtains do match my carpet--they have to because it's what God gave me. I refuse to dye my hair and make it unhealthy and straw-like and paint myself up like a friggin' peacock just to--well, just to do what I'm not sure. Find a man? Show off? I'm happily married and comfortable enough in my relationship that I have more important things to worry about!

Well, okay. If you're talking about furnishings, I would say it only matters if Martha Stewart is coming to visit.
If you're referring to something else, I'd say who cares? It's not like every Tom, Dick and Harry sees the carpet anyway, and I would think if he is seeing the carpet, he wouldn't be concerned about the color.

Not at all - not by nature and not for style. Anything goes. Many in nature don't match anyway. I know some women who do them to match, which can be fun.

They don't have to be the same color, but they should be somewhat harmonious. For instance, if you have cream carpet, you can have any color of curtains that match the rest of the room. You have to take the whole room into consideration.
Of course, you can decide it doesn't matter, and then it doesn't.

No, my carpet is beige and the curtains are coral. Have a blue flowered couch with coral in it. Just so everything blends somehow, that's all that matters.

i dont think so at all! my grandma has flowery curtains with a white carpet and it looks absolutely beautiful! it all depends on your personality i guess..
