Reg.AKC Kennel Names?

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW I CAN GET A LISTING OF REG. AKC KENNEL NAMES? I AM TRYING TO PICK OUT A KENNEL NAME AND I DON'T WANT TO DUPLICATE A NAME THAT MIGHT BE OUT THERE ALREADY.

Not sure of what you are asking. Do you want a name for a breeding kennel or are you trying to pick out a name for a dog?

It sounds like you want a name for a kennel.

What kind of dogs are you breeding? Are they just on a registry(AKC) or do you have Pedigree Papers on your dogs. To avoid being a back yard breeder you really need the Pedigreed dogs to breed. AKC papers don't mean a damned thing without the Pedigree Papers if you are going to breed quality dogs.

Get them Championed out before you start a breeding program. So that both sire & dame are Champions.

Please, do not rely on AKC papers only. Get the Pedigreed dogs to start your kennel. AKC is just a registry & does not have anything to do with the genetic work up of a breed. 1 out of every 15 AKC registered dogs don't meet the AKC Standards. The 1 to 15 is most deffinantly an understatement.

You might try looking at the AKC breeders registry & look at the names of kennels associated with the breed that you have chosen.

AKC will not allow a duplicate of a REG nennel name but because AKC regulations require an huge number of puppies to get a registered kennel name many well known show breeders don't register their kennel name. While AKC would allow the duplicate then, its gauche in the extreme to do so. Another person on YA came up with a clever idea. Go to www.akc.org to the free dog lookup - type in your breed and the kennel name you are thinking of - If it's been used, a list of dogs using it will come up. Make sure to put it in with and without an s and in any alternate spelings (using say canycane kennels when there is a canykane already would be bad idea) also check closely associated breeds (say labs if you have goldens)

If you try to use a registered kennel name when you register a dog, the AKC will come back to you and tell you that you need the registered kennel owner's permission. Most people use "unofficial" kennel names simply because it is a long involved process to register your kennel name. Use the same name for five years and people tend to know who you are, etc.

Additionally. It used to be the AKC registered names for eternity. They now find that NUMEROUS registered kennel names that haven't been used for decades and they can't change anything. I haven't checked recently, but I know that they now only give people a registered name for a period of time (can't remember how long it is).

Many breeders that have kennel names don't register them so it would be rather difficult to find an all inclusive list.. also in order to register a kennel name with AKC there is certain criteria that needs to be met and an application fee to be paid..I suggest that you go to the AKC site akc.org and look to see their criteria is regarding kennel names.

I would do a in depth search on line and most kennels have a website or you can pull the names from other affiliations this way you can be relatively certain that your not using a kennel name from other registering authorities as well.
