There is one day each quarter for sign ups to sororities. You can talk to each one, ask all kinds of questions and get to know some of the women in them.

My mother was in a sorority when she was in college. She is 80 now, and she still stays in touch with her sorority sisters. Some of our closest family friends were in college with her. Sororities often create the strongest connections between women.

If your friends sister flunked out of college, it wasn't because of the sorority. In fact, sororities usually help the members improve their grades. It's your life, make it great.

Greek life in general (fraternities and sororities) is a great way to get involved on campus and to get the most of our college experience. If you know how to manage your time, you'll be fine. Some people party too hard and thus fail out like your friend's sister. It's all about balance. Good luck!

P.S. Some trivia for you. One of UC Davis' sororities (Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi) was featured on MTV's short lived series "Sorority Life."
