It's a good idea, if you're at the tail-end of an illness to exercise.

The initial effect of exercise is a lowering of the immune system. This is due to the bodies need of resources during after exercise recovery.(i.e. The repair of micro-tears that occur in muscle tissue during exercise.) The overall effect of exercise is actually a boost to the immune system.

If you are getting over a cold, moderate exercise would be helpful in strengthening your immune system.
The increase in blood flow associated with moderate exercise helps to more quickly circulate antibodies and white blood cells needed to fight infection, thus helping the body fight off potentially damaging germs.
Exercise is also important in preventing future colds or flu.
It appears that regular physical activity might contribute to ridding the lungs of the types of airborne bacteria and viruses that are linked to common upper respiratory tract infections, while also cleansing the body of certain carcinogens (cancer-causing cells) and waste products through increased output of urine and sweat.
In addition, the increase in body temperature that results from physical activity might aid in inhibiting the growth of bacteria, allowing the body to fight infection more effectively.
Finally, moderate exercise has been shown to reduce the secretion of stress-related hormones thought to contribute to the onset of illnesses such as the flu and the common cold, and give a temporary boost in the production of macrophages, the cells that attack bacteria.

Excersize is great for the immune system as long as you replenish your body very well with the nutrients it lost.
Sweat gives your body a way to heat up, and kill the sickness, while sweating also gives your body a place to get rid of things it doesn't need.

Very moderate exercise is ok, like going for a walk, just to get the blood moving, but not pumping hard. You need the energy to heal, but you also need to keep the blood moving.

Would make sure I didn't have any dripping or coughing before running. You don't want to mess up your lungs.

It helps. But you do not want to push yourself too much if you are really sick.
