If there is such a thing as Biblical sin? then I'm sure it is a sin to cherry pick, the way the Bible was compiled and edited again and again has been one big exercise in cherry picking of course.

Have you every been cherry picking from a cherry tree. You don't pick all the cherries at once. You pick the ones that seem tasty for the moment. Well, today is fathers day, so one may want to pick the verses in http://www.fathersloveletter.com .

I am not one to even be able to pick all the verses at the same time when studying the Holy Word. I read as the Spirit leads & highlights to me.

A particular point or a question on a particular concept, one should read all the verses on the subject to get a clear answer. If this is cherry picking, I don't have a problem with this at all.

When one reads a verse & ignors other verses that clarify its meaning & read the verse wrong (based on own understanding) then this would be a sin.

Can you tell when it ceases to be Cherry Picking and becomes Quote Mining?
The thing about Quote Mining is that by taking words out of context and/or using them in uncomplete form you can make them say something that was not what they were meant to say at all.
Answers in Genesis is absolutely famous for Quote Mining.
They have gone far past "Cherry Picking" and as a result have destroyed their credability with anybody at all familiar with any of the scientists that they love to present quotations from.
If you are honestly presenting a prized quotation that is Cherry Picking" but if you are deliberately using a quotation falsely and misrepresenting what the source intended then it is "Quote Mining."
Quote Mining is actually lying, so beware of it.

"Text out of context is pretext." This is not a sound study of the Bible. It means one has preconceived ideas and they look up individual verses to back up their premises. It is a method that is full of conceit and dishonest scholarship. It puts the finite human mind on a higher plain than holy writ that was inspired by God. To correctly study the Bible, you must study an entire section in order to determine what it actually teaches.

Well, LYING is sinful, to the tune of its being a violation of one of the Big Ten.

And RRR cultists employ deception constantly, that way, by pretending the Bible points out some things that it doesn't, and by studiously avoiding any mention of clear passages that INDICT their agendas.

It can be and has been. Lots of people often to do it to promote a false gospel. That is a huge sin, and it considered heresy.
