I have some small free weights and a tension rope to do lots of arm exercises. (Today is arms for me) I can do several sit-ups or other various ab workouts, and I have a nice treadmill that I can walk uphill on for 45 minutes. Is that still a good workout?

As long as you are active and sweating, it always count. Some people, including myself are not comfortable working out in front of other people. I actually lost over 50 pounds on a variety of Kathy Smith DVDs. To me it is actually better, because you could work anytime, save gas, and also be in the comfort of your own home. I say go for it...

It doesn't matter where you exercise, as long as you exercise enough and correctly. I go to the gym, because if I am at home I am bored, do other things and finally I don't exercise. If you can make sure to exercise for at leats 1 hour every day or every other day, then fine. Also, you must make sure to warm up well, then do balanced exercises for the entire body (without cheating, like stopping when you start feeling tired or avoiding the exercises you hate), and then stretching. If you know what to do and you don't need instructions, why go to the gym?
