I got my wonderful yorkie for a wonderful price from a wonderful breeder in Southern California. Did I mention he's wonderful? Lol. I've been to her house, and seen all the yorkies, they are all gorgeous and very well cared for! She just had a litter, and she has a website: yorkiepalace.com

it all depends on how much effort you're willing to put in. the only con is they are known to be hard to house train. crate training is extremely benificial for these dogs. they are very smart dogs and training in other areas should not be as difficult. the thing about them being yappy isn't really true if you discourage them from a young age.
they do love attention and most have no problem being lap dogs. most even prefer to be. they do not need a lot of exercise as they are pretty active and will work out while playing. they only require short walks.
coat care is hard unless you intend on keep them at a puppy cut. the puppy cut will still require almost daily grooming and bi weekly bathing. they are always alert and most if properly trained are friendly with other dogs. Yorkies do well with children, the only reason people say they don't is because young children usually play too rough for these little guys. Ages 5+ is recommended
Do not be surprised at the cost of these dogs. these can be very expensive dogs. even shelter dogs run more on average than others

Your first step would be to research the breed inside out.
Are they good dogs? if you are a terrier fan, then yes. They do bark a lot, they dig and they can be scrappy with other dogs -- typical terrier -- but good training, a structured routine, socialization and plenty of exercise can eradicate most of the 'bad'.

Save a life! Do a yahoo search and find a RESCUED yorkie!
yorkshire+terrier+rescue+CA
This breed, although ADORABLE, are one of the most difficult to house-train! They are not great around small kids.

Yorkies are very energetic and need a lot of exercise, their temperament is good though and they are good with other dogs.

They are cute and stuff but they are EXTREEMELY yappy. I know 4 people with yorkies and say they wish they were not as yappy. If you are into the whole small-dog-not-shedding thing, check out this cali havanese breeder-www.cornerstonekennels.com

Dogs are living creatures and lovable animals......choice should not be based on whether a particular dog is good but on whether you can be good to a particular breed.
