Most people belive that it is the Kalashnikov AK47 because of it's ability to fire underwater, in sand, mud and it can even be ran over by a tank and still work. the AK47 also has been copied by several army's so it can be fired with many different rounds and clips, it can also be fitted with a drum clip or link belt and will take a long time to overheat.
However I think it is the fn f2000, an assault rifle with similar rounds and ammo to the AK47 but it has a built in silencer and grenade launcher which can calculate the exact angle at what it should fire the grenade at, the fn f2000 also has double clip adjustments so it can be fired both by right and left handed people and a night vision sniper scope. The fn f2000 can also be ran over, fire in sand and mud but cannot work underwater due to all the electronics

Wow, good question, but a bit vague.
Handgun- My preference is for the old classic, Colt.45. Battle tested, decades in service, and was designed to stop a horse in it's tracks.
Rifle-M1 Garand. The rifle that beat the Nazi's and the Rising Sun. Easy to produce and one of the most sought after collector pieces
Shotgun-Remington 870, hands down. Inexpensive, powerful, reliable, and if you hear that slide rack, you know it means business
Assault Rifle-Gotta go with the AK47 here. Most prolific rifle in the world. Worldwide reputation and service and the most recognizable profile ever
Machine Gun-This is easy. M2 .50 Cal. Quality never goes out of style. You can use this big dog for anything. Mount it on a Hummer, a plane, a helo, and leaves BIG holes in what it hits.
I could go on for ever, but I'm going to keep it simple.

General George Patton called the M-1 Grand the "Greatest battle implement of all times" Others think the AK-47 due to it's wide distrubution. In fact the best firearm of all times is the one you use to save your life or the life of someone else.

Wow! That is a difficult one. I mean it's horses for courses. And what do you mean by firearm ? Hand guns, rifles, field artillery , naval guns , missiles . Too big a subject to answer objectively. For a start, I would not like to face someone with a Vickers machine gun , if all I had was (a prone to jamming) Luger. One of which, I owned.

The METAL STORM
Metal Storm technology is an electronically initiated, stacked projectile system that removes the mechanisms required to fire a conventional weapon. Effectively, the only parts that move in Metal Storm’s technology are the projectiles contained within the barrels. Multiple projectiles are stacked in a barrel. The technology allows each projectile to be fired sequentially from the barrel.Electricity is used to fire the bullet.
Using the technology above they made a pistol that could fire three rounds before recoil. They even made a turret that could fire over a million rounds in less than a minute. either as an unstoppable wave/wall or as a metal spear.
Metal storm can even be fitted with grenades showering a target with explosions. it's the wave of the future.

My favorite is the mini-gun. Utterly biblical rate of fire, 66.6 rounds per second. In my opinion, more miniguns, and less liberals would greatly improve most situational conflicts.
But I also gotta say that I get a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I see a MK19 in action.
Then the AK47, The Sig 220, the S&W 28,649,640,60 etc..
(I'm a sucker for the classics)

AK-47, no doubt about it, the roatating bolt design is a wonder, and it will take abuse and dirt without jamming, forever...
HERETOHELP, I shot AK-47 and most other rifles of similar purpose, no, not for fun, as a member of the military, have you ? ... It was cheap to make and would never fail, I guess that would disqualify it in your eyes... I guess it is also the most used rifle in the world... what would they know...
to each his own...
