They'll have to address it, but it won't change the election.
Bill Richardson has said an interesting thing.
"On my first day I'll announce my plan to leave Iraq. The second, my plan for reducing oil imports. My third, for global warming".
Politically he has those in the right order.

A lot of the candidates on both sides of the aisle have already addressed the issue. I really think the Democratic party has the best solutions, but it's anyone's right to disagree with me. I personally feel that it will take a combination of the free market, government intervention, and public participation to solve this problem, just like most problems. The Republicans like to leave out the government intervention part, but I seriously don't think the market will improve very quickly on its own unless we get ol' Uncle Sam to put a fire to its ***.
I think we'd all be a lot better off if we started in that direction. Even those folks who refuse to believe in global warming have already admitted they see an advantage in the US getting off of dependence on foreign oil. When we buy our fuel from countries that hate us, we're paying for our own destruction even if you do take climate change out of the equation.
Not to mention it'd be pretty awesome to have an electric car that got its juice from a solar or wind plant, so I wouldn't have to pay $4 a gallon for gas. An American start-up auto company called Tesla Motors has a $98,000 car in production that's electric, but not ugly, slow, and almost powerless like most other electric cars. It's also got a safe design and the batteries are safe and recyclable. Arnold Schwarzenegger has already pre-ordered one, being the maverick of a Republican he is.

Global warming will have to become a much bigger issue in the minds of voters before candidates will address it. Most people simply don't understand - or don't want to understand - the serious threat this is about to become. The only thing that could change candidates' priorities would be a major natural disaster caused by the effects of global warming. After all, politicians are nothing but reactionary....(never proactive). -RKO- 06/17/07

Probably not-by that time. The media frenzy is going to influence issue's again, as it already say's do this do that etcetera with sublety a million time's worse than last election. Dubya got in because of fear, and doubt. Both of these are still heavily impregnated inside voter's mind's. A democrat will have to go around the fear mongering that will prevail from the current oligopoly. Climate change is already too late, and by 2009 could degrade civilization to chao's.

No candiate has offered any plan that has any credibility and has any chance of actually solving the problem.
Unfortunately the people in the media generally have little if any scientific training and do more harm than good with the amount of misinformation that they provide to the public.

Expect a LOT of lip service with no verifiable action taken.
Be especially aware of those candidates who have "a plan" that they will reveal after they take office. WTF?!? If they truly have a solution to a global problem, then why not share it now? Those kinds of people are either selfish, malevolent bastards, or lying pricks. Neither a good quality in a President.

Interesting facts about Richardson:
- he was the US secretary of ENERGY
- he was the US embassador to the UN
Pretty good to work on national and international energy and climate policies
