Hey. I'm in hs and in my grade 9 year I was on the volleyball and tennis teams, so I totally understand.
VOLLEYBALL:
If your hs is fairly large you might have a tougher chance making the team (we had 80 grade 9's try out at our school). So, some things to keep in mind:

1. They like tall people, are you tall? If not, I'm short too, and they always seem to need a libero (I don't know if you're familiar with it - a defensive backrow specialist, usually where they stick the short ones, because we are lower to the ground and are more co-ordinated)

2. Overhand serves. This is really impressive for a newbie, if you can work on one, that's like the magic ticket in.

3. Control, you don't want to be the one always running after balls, they can tell pretty easily then.

4. Pair up with a good player. Scout one out ahead of time to make yourself look better (a bad partner can make you run after balls, like in #3, even if its not your fault).

5. Dress right. No flimsy tank tops, and perfect curls, this is cuthroat. Where the spandex shorts ( if you have them), a volleyball t-shirt (from a camp, or league) and tie your hair up, you have to look the part!

6. Try joining a summer league or sign up for a camp in the summer to improve your skills, it helps believe me! Also, join a club team, regardless of whether you make the team or not. When I joined we had about 2 months before school tryouts, so I was already at my peak for try-outs. And if you don't make the team, play club and you will be super good for grade 10!

With both sports, they assume freshmans aren't going to be very good, but they need some so they have some grade10s the next year. Don't be intimidated! Best of luck, with the volleyball and the tennis and your entire hs career!

The only way you can be super duper good at both Volleyball and Tennis is trying your absolute best. The more you practice, the better you will be; inside and outside.

Good Luck in High School!!!!!

no, not usually...they are looking for potential though to see if you are coachable, trainable, good attitude. so make sure that you keep and open mind to the coaching they are giving you. If you have never played before..it might be a good idea to know the basics of volleyball and/or tennis. Ask a friend to help you learn the game.

highschools are usually more lenient towards the freshmans as they give you more skills for the next years when you get to play more. When the coach tells you you've done something wrong ask them how to fix it because they like that...
Basically, you have a really good chance of making the team as a freshman.... because it gives you and the coaches the opportunity to develop your skills.... the next years are harder to make the team and you actually have to be good...

Hopefully that helped you a bit!!

Try out~ it'll be fun!! :)

it is hard to make it above the freshman team for volleyball if you are just starting out as a freshman it is usually good to have prior experience. so if you have no experience u should practice your butt off. anythings possible
Good Luck!

you are like me, im gonna try out for tennis too, and ive never even played, one of my friends asked me to, but ive played volleyball ever since i was little, and i love it to death. it depends on the coach i think, as long as you arent liek realy really bad, like cant even serve underhand, then i would say you are ok, hope this helps!

p.s. good luck on making the team!

they only kept 9 girls for my freshman team. so you have to look at your compitition and see who you are up against.
