I only took it for nine days because that's exactly what it did to me. My main problem was depression, but when I started taking Lexapro I had so much anxiety I could hardly leave my dorm room. I don't know if it's the med for you, though, if you've been on it two months and the anxiety only just increased. You should call your doctor, he'll have a better idea of what's going on.

Yes and no. I take a benzodiazepine (Klonopin) with my Lexapro plus a mood stabilizer (Abilify). Without the Klonopin, I still suffer from extreme anxiety and panic attacks just like I did before I got on the meds. Lexapro only helped with my depression, not my anxiety, but I don't think it caused 'extra' anxiety.

Yes, this has happened to me.
I suffer from various mood disorders and according to sopme research I've done serotogenic antidepressants like Lexapro can trigger manic swings and increase depression for those who have certain mood disorders.
I have no idea if this is the case for you. Since Lexapro works by modulating your serotonin levels; you may want to speak to your Dr. about trying different drugs that work on different neurotransmitters (e.g. Wellbutrin, Effexor, Cymbalta all work differently than Lexapro).

My daughter has been on it for about a year and a half, and it works wonders for her. She is happy and so is everyone else around her. She tried going off of it and went back to her mood swings and anxiety. It is the only thing that she ever tried that has helped her so much. She said that the doctor told her that not everyone has enough Seraton in their brain, and these drugs help so you can cope with life better and have a better chemical balance in your brain. It is good when she is taking it, so she is now afraid to get off of it. I guess what ever you need you must take, for how long of a time, I do not know. Maybe your doctor could tell you if you should stay on it, or when it might be safe to get off of it. Good luck!

I have also been on lexapro, for about 6 months. Its also supposed to help with anxiety however my doctor also prescribed an anti anxiety/panic medication to take with it. They gave me the lexapro and clonazepam. It works really well together. I would go into your doctor with your concerns though, and see what he/she recommends.

That is one of Lexapro's side effects, anxiety. Kind of ironic isn't it? Paxil and Lexapro are very similar and I know when I got off Paxil it was Hell. Paxil made me feel more anxious. Now that I take nothing I feel calm.
