I am going to Northeast China, Dalian, a beach resort. From what I gather, the beach resorts are the place to be.

Both Sept. and Oct. are the best month for travel. You can travel to any places in Chine without worrying the change of climate. The average tempreture should be around 25 at day time and in the evening it may differ from north to the south. However if you have a jacket or one thick close with you, then no need to worry.

Well, most people go to China during the summer, but as long as you avoid the first week of October, you can avoid the crowd during summer. (and the heat)

I've been to several great places to go during these times, one would be Inner Mongolia and North-East China, the fall scene is spetacular. Another great place would be like Yunnan and Hainan (both in southern China). It won't be too hot if you go then.

If you like seafood, choose the seaside city.
if you like ancient style buliding or history, go to Beijing or Xi'an.
If you like a variety of different ethinic groups, choose Li Jiang in Yunnan province.
