Does Shaving Damage Skin

Nah, it actually exfoliates the skin. I use the razors with the lotions on the blades, like the Venus Divine. And then, after shaving, I either use lotion or I use my Olay Nutrium body wash.

No actually it helps it because it gets the top layer of dead skin off also. Just try to stay away from dry shaving.

No, as long as you do not cut yourself. But it does dry out the skin. Be sure to to use lotion daily.

There is no medical evidence supporting the rumor that shaving causes your hair to grow back faster and/or thicker. And know that most shaving damage results from using dull blades, the wrong shaving products and/or a lack of preparation. So relax, and decide where you want to shave with your Quik Shave Razor. There are no right or wrong places, because it’s your decision. Typical options for women include the calves and thighs, underarms, and bikini area, but it is not unusual for some women with light hair to shave their upper and lower arms as well.

NEVER, EVER DRY SHAVE WITH QUIK SHAVE™!

No, no, no! Just don’t do it. it’s b-a-d for your skin and besides, it can cause ingrown hairs. Use water!

DO NOT SHAVE IN DIM LIGHTS!

Proper lighting is very important for safe shaving. Use higher wattage light bulbs, or turn on the bathroom flood light for best results. Either way, don’t shave in the dark!

WHICH IS BEST: BATHTUB or SHOWER?

Again, it’s your choice. Many women prefer shaving during a bubble bath in the tub. This way, you can sit in the water and extend your legs onto the edges of the tub, or sit on the edge of the tub with your feet in the water. Shaving in the shower should be the last thing you do before finishing so that you can allow the warm water and steam to open the pores in your skin. Shower shaving requires you to stand carefully, so don’t slip.

USE A QUALITY SKIN-FRIENDLY SHAVING CREAM or GEL

Stop using regular bar soap or liquid soap when shaving! Get yourself a special formula shaving cream or gel with skin softeners and moisturizers. There are many on the market today, and they are not expensive. You should always pamper yourself with moisturizers, everywhere! Apply onto the leg in an upward stroke, starting at the ankles.

USE DOUBLE BLADE RAZOR CARTRIDGES with ALOE STRIPS

Although some claim that a single blade razor cartridge is less irritating to use for shaving, you’ll find this won’t be the case with lubricant-stripped double blades, if you take the time to prepare your skin prior to shaving and use a moisturizing shave cream or gel.

DO NOT USE DULL or RUSTED RAZOR BLADE CARTRIDGES

Using old cartridges will result in an irritating shave and damage to the skin. Quik Shave blades, however, can last women up to 6 weeks!!! Why? Because you're not quickly wearing out the center of the blades (as is the case with other brands of single-headed razors).

PREPARE YOUR RAZOR

Run very warm water over your razor blades first, before you start shaving.

ALWAYS SHAVE WITH MID-TO-VERY WARM, but NOT HOT WATER

You can do this in either the shower or bathtub. Warm water opens the pores of your skin, softens the hairs, and makes shaving a lot easier. You’ll need to either shower or bathe for at least 5-10 minutes before you begin shaving in order to prep your skin and hair. To begin, lightly soap a washcloth and with slight pressure, glide the cloth upward against the growth of hair on each leg, starting at the ankle and moving up. This makes your hairs stand up for easier shaving. Rinse.

LOOK IN A MIRROR WHEN YOU SHAVE YOUR UNDERARMS

It’s hard to get a good look at where the hair is under your arms, so use a mirror. This way, you won’t miss anything. You'll also find that shaving in-and-against the direction of the hair growth helps you to get a really clean shave. Avoid using an antiperspirant or deodorant that irritates your just-shaved underarms.

SHAVE YOUR LEGS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Most women lather up and shave against the hair growth of their legs for best results. Meaning, they shave in an upward direction, starting from the ankle. Other women shave in whatever direction it takes to get smooth results, especially on the thighs. Do what works best for you. Also, be sure to rinse off the blades fairly often to remove cut
hair and extra lather.

RINSE YOUR RAZOR FREQUENTLY

Don’t keep shaving with a razor that’s clogged-up with hair stubble and lather. Rinse the blades as often as needed.

HOW TO GET SMOOTH KNEES

For some people, bending your knee helps you get a smoother surface to shave on, but for others, shaving the knee with your leg straightened works best. I like using Quik Shave on my knees with my leg straight because the blades glide over my contours without any problems. Yet some women swear that you’ll get the best shave ever when you pull the skin back from your knee tightly and shave with the other hand.

DEALING WITH INGROWN HAIRS

Just in case you ever discover ingrown hair on your legs, soak your skin in very warm water for about 5-10 minutes, like in a bubble bath. Then, gently use a loofah sponge or Buff Puff pad to exfoliate the skin areas with ingrown hairs. Now shave the area. For hairs that are ingrown deep down in your skin, you’ll need to sterilize a pair of needle-nosed tweezers with rubbing alcohol and individually lift each ingrown hair out of its follicle. When finished, wipe the area with alcohol and shave.

IF YOU GET A NICK or CUT

Don’t panic! Dab a styptic pencil on the damaged area, or tear off a tiny piece of tissue paper and place onto the cut. After this dries, you can remove the tissue and rub a little aloe vera over the spot. Black pepper also helps to stop bleeding.

CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU FINISH

Glide your fingertips across your legs; check for places that you may have missed before your final rinse.

TOWEL OFF, and PUT MOISTURIZING LOTION or OIL ON YOUR LEGS

When you are finished, pat off (don’t rub) excess water with a soft towel and massage a skin conditioning moisturizer or body oil into your legs. Natural aloe vera spray is a good choice for this. This will help you stay silky and smooth to the touch. DO NOT splash alcohol on your legs, as this is much too drying for the skin. After the lotion dries, you may put talcum powder on your legs for a super-silky feel.

DON’T SHAVE YOUR FACE, UPPER LIP or EYEBROWS

Guys can do this, but most women are better off tweezing, waxing or bleaching these areas.

IF YOU FIND YOURSELF WITHOUT A SHAVING CREAM or GEL, DON’T WORRY!

Simply use shampoo and/or hair conditioner when you have nothing else!. Lather up your legs and go!

Ten Shaving Tips To Keep You Happy

1. Don't waste your money on shaving creams formulated especially for women. They are virtuallythe same as the creams sold for men. Now if you can just find a scent that you can live with.

2. It is really important for your legs to be wet for at least a couple of
minutes before you start shaving. Less than that and you risk irritation.

3. You are going to have to experiment with razors until you find the perfect one for you. Ask your friends for recommendations. I recently started sampling a variety and was amazed how different each of them feel.

4. Some shaving products can contain irritants which are going to cause red bumps and ingrown hairs. Try a shower gel or a hair conditioner instead and see if it works better for you.

5. Be sure to apply a moisturizer over your freshly shaved skin but be sure that it doesn't contain AHA. AHA can cause irritation.

6. Be gentle when you get out of the tub or shower. Be sure to dab your skin dry, gently.

7. If you find your skin is still irritated, try an antibiotic like Neosporin. It offers quick relief.

8. Be sure to exfoliate your skin before shaving. It gets rid of all the dead skin cells that could clog up your razor, preventing a close shave.

9. Be sure to change razors or cartridges on a regular basis. It only defeats the purpose to use a dull razor (but a QS can last up to 6 weeks for legs!!)

10. If your hair is course, try using an alum block to lift the hairs.
