Most dorm rooms are shared by two people; however, the configurations change depending on the college. For example, suites are very popular right now, in which you have several shared bedrooms sharing a common living area. Older dorms, however, don't have this option.

It may happen at a few more liberal schools that men and women might be in the same suite, but I don't think anyone would allow you to share a bedroom with someone of the opposite sex. Since it is generally the parents who pay the tuition, schools have to appeal to them, not just the students, and most parents (especially of women) aren't thrilled at the thought of their daughters going off to college and rooming with a male friend.

Most schools assign you a roommate, based upon some preferences you had to state, in your freshman year. When I went to school, I was away over the summer when the request form came, and my mother called a friend of mine's mother and they arranged to have us room together. It was a disastrous mistake. Not only did we have very different ideas of how we wanted to experience college and rubbed each other the wrong way all the time, but it kept both of us from meeting as many new people as we should have right up front.

So, yes, I would room with someone; that is part of the college experience. And no, I would not room with someone I knew before if I were to do it again.

That depends on the rules of the university to have someone of the opposite sex. Now it okay to room with someone else to save of college costs.

colleges do not room males and females together in the same room. Are you crazy? You must be a guy, thinking you are getting a free peep show to go along with the rest of your "education".
