In training programs run by police departments, the recruits are hired and paid as trainees, then as probationary cops on the street, then as officers after the probation period. You stay in unless you are dropped out.

You apply for a job at a police station and they send you to training.

Being a recruit means you have already been recruited and hired by a town to be a police officer, and if you then pass the training at the Police Academy, you get to keep the job.

Generally a Police Agency will hire them with a conditional offer then send them to the academy. As long as they pass all requirements of the academy and pass the final exam they return back to the originating agency that hired them for a field training period. Recruits in most departments are on probation for 1 to 2 years.

There are police academy programs that will allow civilians to complete the course such as PTI in Illinois however once you complete the academy you have to search for a job.

Hope that answer helped..

Yes, there is no guarantee of a job just for going to police academy. YOu have to apply for any police department you want to work for.

most recruits are sponsored by a dept giving them a job after they finish their training, people who are sponsored get most of the openings in the class, if you sponsor your self then you have to apply for a job
it is far better to be sponsored you may need to start out as a dispatcher or jailor for a while to get a sponsorship
