USE THE EYE PROTECTION, and demand that your tanning salon take it seriously and require everyone to use it. UV radiation is harmful to the eyes and a major contributor to eye disease such as cataracts, retinal deterioration and other vision impairments. Regardless of the hype you get at a tanning salon, remember: while tanning beds (up-to-code beds, anyway) may not be proven to be more dangerous than natural tanning, they're by no means safer. UV-blocking eyeware in a tanning bed is a must, just as you should wear UV-blocking sunglasses outdoors. Eye health is understressed in the US, but you need to take it seriously, especially as a tanner.

it is absolutely necessary. If you tan that often, buy your own eye protection, it is a wise investment!

I use eye protection b/c if not the UV rays can damage your eyes. (Also I have contacts and when I don't wear them, my eyes become really dry)
