I have known a next door disabled person due to a back disease. She is receiving an SSI after working for almost 30 years for the company. She wants to know if she can get any other disability income like Social Security Income Disability in addtion to Social Security Supplemental Income. Please advise me.

With 30 years employment, if at least 10 years of that was in a job covered by social security, she should be eligible for SSDI (social security disability income) if her disability meets the requirements. I'm not sure how she ended up with SSI if she was eligible for SSDI. She should talk to her local social security office.

If she applied for SSDI and was turned down, she might have to appeal it, and might be better off with a lawyer than trying to do it herself.

Your question doesn't make a lot of sense. There is never social security tax on pension income. However, if you are asking can your social security income be taxed if it, along with your pension income, put you over the limit, the answer is YES. This happens at any age. I have a client who is 91 years old. She pays taxes on 85% of her Social Security every year because she receives a large pension.

The best advice that I could give is to go to the website for Social Security. The site is very informative and people are able to ask questions, apply and find out further information. I would do that if I were the person that is looking for help.
She should ask her rep from SSI about that. Both are connected.

If she's been working for 30 yrs. and her employer paid into social security she should be eligible for it. She should go to or call her local Social Security office and tell them her situation. They should give her the paperwork to fill out. If she has trouble with them find a social worker at her local hospital or clinic where she gets her medical care to help her.
