Find the cooler, and take a traditional American picnic, my personal fav. Cold chicken, potato salad, cold baked beans, some kind of fruit salad of whatever is in season, lemonade or soda pop, cookies, or brownies.
An option is hoagie sandwiches you make and wrap at home, with the sides you like.
If there is a grill there, take a grill brush with you, and take easy things for the grill:hot dogs and buns, marshmallows [put the whole unopened sack in a Tupperware so they will not quish]

i love to make this and take it on picnics along with hot dogs or hamburgers.

Cold Tuna Macaroni Salad

INGREDIENTS

1 (12 ounce) package macaroni
3 tomatoes - peeled, seeded and diced
3 stalks celery, chopped
1 (12 ounce) can tuna
1 1/2 cups light mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Italian-style salad dressing
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 pinch ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook pasta until al dente, rinse under cold water and drain.
In a large bowl, combine the pasta, tomatoes, celery and tuna.
Prepare the dressing by whisking together the mayonnaise, salad dressing, sugar and pepper. Add to pasta salad, mix together, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Just had roast beef dinner but it's got me thinking....
I saw one of those perfect housewife programmes on the telly and they did a picnic where they cut the crusts off the sandwiches and wrapped them up in pretty paper with string and had bottles of traditional lemonade in nice glasses. If you go to your local supermarket, as long as it's the one beginning with S they do party platters. They're really special and decadent so if it's for a special occasion - cheat! (everything tastes better if it's wrapped nicely so jam sandwiches will probably be good if they're wrapped nicely and accompanied by several bottles of something chilled!!!) - Enjoy!

I agree with Norag. Fried chicken is the best for a picnic. Plus I would suggest biscuits to go with the chicken.
