I KNOW children CAN emancipate themselves from their parents...my old boyfriend was emancipated when he was 16. He had to go before a judge in order to get it finalized.

I am not so sure abot parents to their children though; Im' quite sure they have a legal obligation to provide for their chidren until they are 18...look at all those child support cases, if emancipation were a possiblity, I imagine a lot of those dead beat dads would do that instead of paying or being garnished.

Yes, parents can have their child declared an emancipated minor. If they are close to 18 they are legally considered an adult. If they are not close to 18, the state takes over responsibility of the child. The kid has to be doing really bad stuff for that to happen in most cases.

Yes, parents can relinquish their parental rights. Usually the kids are "given" to another family member to raise but sometimes they are just put into the system to be fostered.

yes, its called termination of parental rights, parents do it when they put their kids up for adoption or they are deemed unfit parents by the state.
