my camp is in tionesta,pa and it is just one county south east of Erie pa. the people at the little store as well as neighboring camps have said that they have seen mountain lions in the past ten years. they did not specify though, and that could have meant as long ago as 1997 or even now.

The cougar, mountain lion, catamount, painter, etc depending on where you live, has been making a comeback. Deer are plentiful and the only natural enemy they have are mountain cats and bands of coyotes. Catamounts ( etc) were extinct in Illinois about a hundred years ago. They are now making a come back. There have been sightings along the Mississippi in Missouri and Illinois for a number of years. There have been 2 or three recent road kills of cougar.

With the over-re-newel for the deer population, cougars are traveling and following the food chain.

California has had a number of human killings in the last 10 years also since the deer may not be a plentiful there. Cougar are traveling to a location near you soon- check for listings!

I did a search for 'mountain lion habitat" and found only regional reference, ie. CA, CO, MT etc.
I then searched "mountain lion in PA" and found a bunch of anecdotal references, but nothing official.
There may be some there, but until it gets to where anyone can see one anytime, I would doubt it. I am not saying there are no mountain lions in PA, but I am not saying there are, either.
Run your own search and see what you come up with.

Probably so. Even though the Fish and Game department denies it, they are alive and well in Kansas, so I would imagine they are all over the place.

No. There are none in PA. It's kind of like people who claim they saw the sasquatch. It's fun to think of...but not true.

I've seen plenty of Cougars in PA. Beware of their hunting behavior... they try and weaken their intended prey with 1-2 martini's before moving in for the kill.
