My max is 500 for everything, only thing I really need are the Receiver, and the little 5 speakers.

I will assume you are on a tight budget?

These "combo" units are always of lower quality.
If the DVD player breaks own, you have to bring the whole unit in for servicing, thus losing the receiver.
I would go with separates, you can get a better unit by waiting for one to go on sale that you couldn't afford otherwise.

Advantage: Easy entry level buy for multi-channel audio
Disadvantage: You can't connect more than one (if any) external device. The DVD player may break before the rest.

Recommendation: make SURE it has AT LEAST ONE s/pdif input. So, if the internal DVD player dies you can always connect an external DVD player!!!

With built-in, you save on space, cables/connection, and it is really simple. You lose out on upgradeability, and most of the time pay premium for the cosmetics - vs premium for quality of sound / picture.
Most of the built-ins are on the lower end of the maket - except for very few - Linn, Arcam.
