It means grade point average. An A=4 points, a B= 3 points and so on. Multiply the number of units the class is worth by the grade points add all the points together and divide by the total number of units you took. Then you have your GPA. Leave out classes that are just pass/fail.

If you are asking about a college/university GPA, it refers to your 'Grade Point Average' - usually a number out of 7, based on your results - ie. 6.5 would be almost entirely high distinctions, or A's, depending on your system. Also, not every place calculates it the same way!
