We are a couple in our late 40"s. we recently visited my boyfriend uncle and his mother found out that we slept in the same bed and she informed my boyfriend that this is very disrespectful because we are mot married. I disagreed because we are almost in our fifties< we are not kids. One of the problem i have with this is that he goes along with his mother. Am I right to think that we are grown ups and mom should not tell us this. We stayed there before and his uncle did not have a problem with it.

If it is against what the relative's beliefs are, than I would respect that. It doesn't have anything to do with being grown or not. That would just be respectful, since you are in someone else's house. I think you can make it for a few days in different beds.

Since you are a grown-up, then you should understand that when you are a guest in someone else's home, you should ALWAYS anticipate that sleeping together may insult someone, especially when you are not married. What may not be an issue for you may be an issue for someone else. Good God, keep the peace and ask, for Heaven's sake. This isn't a moral issue or anything of the sort, and it doesn't matter how old you are. The fact is, you are a guest in someone else's home, and no matter who agrees with whom, that is not the question. Be the adult that you claim to be, and be more considerate next time. Next time, you won't even have to ask. You KNOW where they stand.

Regardless of your age, when you are at someone else's house, you follow their rules. If you want to sleep together and it is offensive to someone at the house where you plan to stay, then go to a hotel.
I am almost 60 and if my parents were alive, I would respect their wishes if I were at their house.
