Zeke chose his spot based on the weather. In the winter, he slept in my bed, but would never be under the covers or touching me! In the summer, he slept on the wood floor by the air conditioner. If it was really hot, he would go to the basement and sleep on the cement floor. He was never too cold; he probably would have loved to be an outside dog in the winter. I just put him down due to bone cancer. I am starting to have fun thinking of him again. Thanks for the question!

Have a Great Dane 4 months old and a Border Collie who was 2 yrs old today. When I go to bed they both come up and have a bedtime treat but they know that when I put the light off they have to go to their own beds.
We have a dog bed in the bedroom, one in the hall and another in the living room. They chop and change as and when they feel like it but seem to prefer to be in the same room as me most of the time. The BC also likes to lay on the cold bathroom floor and sometimes when it is hot will jump in the empty bath.
Have to agree with the people that said about having a dog free in the house in case of burglaries, fires etc. They are really good early warning systems.

When I bought my puppy home I spent 4 nights downstairs with her. The 1st 2 cuddled up onthe sofa and the next 2 with me on the sofa and her in her basket, getting up continually to put her back through the night so she knew where she had to sleep. However the next few nights i would wake in the morning to find her asleep outside my bedroom door. So I put a nice cosy blanket there and that is where she has slept ever since. the basket never gets slept in and is used to store her toys in.

Having one of the Giant breeds, she sleeps wherever she wants but usually in my bedroom or the kitchen. Wherever she sleeps she always jumps on my bed every morning for a cuddle.
