it's sort of a newer trend, having a "best person". About time, I would say!

Sir, yes I have heard of this, and have been to wedding and have done weddings where the best man or the maid of honor is not the usual sex. You are a very luck man to have his children love each other so much.
Your son picked his best man, and now it's just what does the "best man" wear. I would suggest either her uniform or a lady's tux. The better tuxedo places have them. She also could wear a dress in the color of the brides maid, but I think it looks better that she's in the color of your son's tux. If your son is wearing a tan tux then her outfit should be tan. That way when the pictures are took she blends in, not stands out.
My daughter pick her maid of honor which was a guy, but unfortunately for her, her groom claim the guy as his best man before she had a chance to ask. So, it's not the so unusual now days. I love it, because it's a place of honor! And who is chosen should be the person that the groom or bride choose for who they are not what sex.
Congratulations! Praying that your son's wedding is the most special day, and that they have many many years of happiness together. He has great parents, so I think they are going to do fine!
God bless us all.....

I think it is a very nice gesture. She should wear her Army Dress uniform. I believe it has a tailored jacket and a skirt. It will make her very distinguished and is appropriate for the occasion. She can also wear a variant of the bridesmaids dresses or a complimentary dress if she likes. A tux is a stupid idea. She is not a boy. If the situation were reversed and your daughter wanted her brother to be her "man of honor" you wouldn't put him in a strapless evening gown, would you?
There is a special edition of people magazine (wedding edition) out now and there is a section about "bridesmen" and "groomswomen".

I have both heard of and seen similar situations, yes. One of the nicest weddings I ever attended, the bride had her brother as her Person of Honor. They were very close and it meant a lot to anyone who knew them.
As for a tux...why doesn't she wear her dress uniform? I believe that's typically what active military personnel do at weddings. If not that, then she could wear a dress that compliments those of the bridesmaid(s). I've also seen ladies' formalwear based on tuxedo styles, both with trousers and with skirts. Talk to her and see what she's comfortable wearing.
Congratulations, both on your son's upcoming wedding and on raising a son with such great priorities. I'm sure the wedding will be lovely.

Yes I have, it is unusual to have someone of the opposite sex as an attendant at a wedding, but your son wouldn't be the first. I would allow the bride to decide what she wants her future sister in law to wear, or the bride and your son together as it is their wedding...I've seen women wear both tuxes and dresses in this capacity. However on the grooms side they typically wear a black dress rather than the bridesmaid dress, however since she is in the army another option would be her dress uniform. Enjoy the wedding, and be glad your children are close enough to find this an important part of his wedding.

This is becoming more and more common, so if he wants her and she is willing go for it! As for her dress, she can wear her uniform, that would be very nice. But if they dont want that, I wouldnt suggest the tuxedo, she is a woman, she should be feminine. She could wear the same dress as the bridemaids(this is what is usually done) or the same dress as the bridemaids, just in black, to blend in better with the black tuxes since she'll be standing on the grooms side.
I would suggest that since she s a woman though, you have her dress like a woman, she will appreciate that.

I think it's a great idea, but, please, no tux for her! If they don't want her in dress uniform. she should wear either a black dress to match the groomsmen, or a dress to match the bridesmaids She will stand at his side, just as a male best man would.
I have seen a woman at a wedding in a tux, but she was the "groom" and her bride was in a gown.

Yes I think it is very nice. I have heard of it. You must have raised a couple of great kids, for your son to want his sister as his Best Maid, and for he and she to be so close.
What she wears is secondary, her uniform would be ok if she and he want that. It might be taken as a political statement in the wedding, whether or not they mean it that way. She could wear a dress like a bridesmaid.

Your daughter's uniform would be appropriate.
Also a dress or some other item that signifies she's an honor attendant, like how a Maid/Matron is honored.
Your daughter wearing a tux, would be most in appropriate; unless she is a trans-gender. But then she would no longer be your "daughter" & we wouldn't be discussing this.

She shouldn't wear a tux as that would make her look like a lesbian or a transgender. Perhaps her dress uniform, or a dress to match the wedding party but not the same as the bridesmaids.
And yes, I know many people who have had a female friend or relative stand on the groom side of the alter, it's their day, why not? :)

Lots of men choose women as their best man and vice versa. I think it is fantastic that they have such a close relationship. Your daughter should wear whatever she feels comfortable in and whatever is acceptable for the bride and groom. She could wear a woman's tux, a bridesmaid's dress or even her dress uniform.
