There's no theme park in New York City, per se. The closest thing is Coney Island - and that's a boardwalk. The ONLY theme park in New York State, that I know of, is about four hours north of the City, in Lake George, and it's called The Great Escape.

There is Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.

SIX FLAGS GREAT ADVENTURE has kingda ka fastest tallest roller coaster in the world it is bout 2 hour off the nj turnpike from nyc or lake compounce in connecticut its the oldest theme park in america and has a wooden coaster that is long fast and goes deep into the backwoods pretty fun but it is like 2:30 hours away close amusement park is coney island which they plann to build on in the future and rye has super flight a glider coaster and a classic wooden coaster with a tunnel plus other classic rides like the flume and the plunge

why go to a theme park? The whole city is a theme park. Go to Times Square if you must, it's like Disney land now.

The nearest "theme park" is in Rye, NY.... (Westchester County) Rye Playland.. its about a half hour or so from the city.. haven't been in years, but it was fun when I was a kid!
