If there is a fire, you want to exit the car and fight the fire with you standing outside of it.

Most fires are either in the engine, due to overheating either an old car or an inexperienced driver who not know to put water in the radiator .... or as a result of an accident.

You want the extinguisher some place where you can get at it when you need it, but not some place where it will be a nuisance when you don't need it.

You probably will go for years before you need it, like the one in your home is probably hanging from a wall, out of the way so you don't bump into it, but in plain sight so when you need it you can see it, remember where it is ... but if there is lots of smoke, getting to safety is more important.

I would keep it in trunk of car with the red triangle used to warn traffic to slow down when approaching disabled car, alwo with whatever you use if you get a flat tire.

Depending on your vehicle, you may not get it under the seat. Your probably not going to have time to grab it or even remember to grab it if YOUR car is on fire . Just put it in the trunk if you need to help someone else out.

I've always had mine under the passenger seat. With the vehicle I have now though, it is kind of velcroed to the side of the console on the passenger side. (not an American vehicle)

It has to be mounted so I would find a place under the dash board.

really it depends on the car type. Hatchbacks or SUVs or vans will be different than passenger cars or sports cars.
