over the past week and a half my left thumb has been painful. It hurts when i stretch it a lot or when a try to massage the joint connecting it to the wrist. I talso hurts a lot when I try to crack the knuckle. I also noticed that a small bony portion portion was stivking out or I may be just paranoid. I can do simple tasks like opening jars, typing and the like without any pain at all. Anyway, I'm 14 and I just came from the beach(if its relevant). i also have not hurt this part of my thumb at all. The pain seems to be subsiding but I'm just making sure its nothing big.

If it persists see a doctor.
About the most serious thing I can think of in a person your age is an assualt to the growth plate. It doesn't need to be much to jam it up and keep your hand from developing.

Don't let it go on.... If the pain lasts - GO TO THE DOC!

First don't crack your knuckles, it only causes bigger joints, and can lead to problems in later years. Secondly, you could have early arthritis. I know that you might think this is something that affects "old folks", but it can happen at your age too. Try soaking your thumb in warm to hot water, and see if this relieves the pain. If not then see a doctor, and he can give you something to help.
