Yes, courage of one form or another. There are those who are very sensitive to physical pain, but they learn to have moral courage. There are those, on the other hand, that are at least slightly stimulated by physical pain, but tend to lack moral courage, and do not stand up to peer pressure well. But you need to have the sort of courage that says when I know I am right, I do what is right without fear.
I don't see how anyone could achieve success in any field that involves self-respect if they do not have some sort of courage. A backbone, as we say. That's really what self-respect is all about, isn't it?
The cowardly become bureaucrats.

Psalms 1:1-3 says: "Blessed are those who do not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but who delight in the law of the LORD and meditate on his law day and night. They are like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers."
The Bible talks about the heart (coeur - heart) differently to secular literature. Ecclesiastes 7:3 says that a sad face is good for the heart. This is different to laughing therapy ideas. Of course, a theme of the Bible is repentance. James 4 also says to turn laughter into mourning. James 3 says that selfish ambition and envy reside in the heart and are earthly, animal, demonic. Jude 10 says that behaviour that is like the unreasoning animals corrupts a person.

Yes. To succeed in anything, there must be something on the line. It takes real courage to stick your neck out. Sometimes it means quitting a job in order to pursue your real passion. Sometimes it means selling your possessions to acquire enough capital to fund your own cafe. Without something at risk, there is nothing to gain. Good insight.

I would imagine some amount of frontal face-up is needed to face down the rigors of life. The amount of courage will vary according to the strength of the challenge.

Courage breeds integrity and honesty, it also breeds the courage to step forward and continue through all odds, especially when things get tough.
I raised all five of my kids to have courage, honesty and step forward and say who you are, where your from and, what your ides are, Don't be afraid.

courage is very important in all aspects of life.In spirituality and dharma courage is most important because its very tough to progress on these paths.
For example it needs courage to speak truth even when you are bound to make enemies who might hurt you.But progress in religion and spirituality is possible only if you never lie and speak truth fearlessly because its your duty.
