How many of my fellow Catholics here agree that for some reason or another it seems to be acceptable to bash our religion. It seems to me that if people make a comment about anyother religion it is condemned (i.e. Judaism, Islam) but Catholicism is fair game. A few examples are comments made by Rosie on The Veiw, books like da vinci code and news reports like "the tomb of jesus" coming out during lent, art being exibited depicting our blessed mother covered in feces and a crucifix upside down in a jar urine and an image of Christ on the cross with his genitals exposed. Would you ever see this with other religions sacred symbols for the sake of "art" or "entertainment"? Would you see books and news stories that attempt to invalidate any other religion come out during their holy times of the year? I'm tired of my religion being bashed. I feel anyone who attempts to knock my religion is in league with the nazis for their prejudice.

Jill- you have many misconceptions, and are so wrong about what the church actually teaches. I think you do hate Catholics. Christianity is not a religion of enlightenment. One of the lies of the serpent in Eden was "your eyes will be opened". Christianity is about faith. I'm not looking for enlightenment but salvation. Besides this question is not about Protestants vs Catholics. Why you felt you needed to turn it into that is beyond me. Maybe you are a Catholic basher because you have to be to feel that your not wrong.

Never once have I asked for protection from a statue. Your wrong about that and you know it. Any Catholic who prays to a statue is ipso facto excommunicated. I know its hard being a Catholic.

There's a book you might be interested in; the title is "Anti-Catholicism in America: The Last Acceptable Prejudice". The Amazon link is below.

We do seem to be living in a time when Catholicism is "fair game", and it is discouraging. I think it's important for us to keep it in perspective, though. Catholics have been persecuted throughout history -- true persecution, not just cultural bias, where practicing their faith was to risk their lives. These dear saints are an example to us. If we suffer a bit for this, they suffered much more.

The Church is an easy target because of its size, its influence, and the visibility of its symbols. While I do think we should, whenever possible, correct misconceptions and defend what we believe, we are called to peace with our neighbors. To lump everyone who (often in ignorance) bashes the Church in the same category as Nazis is to engage in the same over-generalization and hyperbole that hurts us.

[edit] Jill, above: I am also a born-again, Bible believing Christian. I am Catholic. The terms are not at all contradictory, and I regret that you had such poor catechesis that you believe they are. Peace be with you.

Protestant Fundamentalism and the Born Again Catholic

1. Reclaims fallen-away Catholics.
2. Makes converts to Catholicisim.
3. Strengthens the faith of practicing Catholics.

While defending Catholic Doctrine, the author presents Catholic truth in a way that readers discover a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The author is fair, allowing fundamentalists to state positions not favorable to Catholic doctrine. Father Fox then presents the Catholic position to each challenge with a clarity and charity that reveals his own love for Jesus Christ and the Church that traces its origins back to the Lord of the Gospels Who built His Church upon Peter.

The prayerful and unbiased reading of this book will do much to lend credibility that the Bible is the Book of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Church is the Church of the Bible

Yes, I am a training Catholic. I do suppose unhealthy whilst, at Christmas and Easter, all the ones "two times a yr" Catholics pop out - however then I notice that it would be worse. It would very good be feasible they do not pop out in any respect. It's effortless for any individual, who attends Church each week, to visit Mass on Christmas, Easter, and Holy Days of Obligation. I most likely marvel simply how a lot more complicated it's for folks, who do not attend Mass most often, to get out and move to Mass a couple of time according to yr. We are not able to assume it, due to the fact that we all know what we would be lacking. I do not consider those "two times a yr" varieties can totally admire what it's they are lacking. If they did, they might be at Mass greater than two times a yr. I am proud to be Catholic, so it is the entire extra disappointing whilst I see folks taking an "oh hum: perspective in the direction of their vocation as lay Catholics. All we will be able to relatively do approximately it's pray, and wish that they instance we set will, sooner or later, encourage them to begin dwelling the Catholic culture all yr circular.

All religions have some things that I personally believe are wrong and not exactly true. I've studied alot of them. I find certain things that I don't believe to be quite right about Catholicism, Episcopalian, Lutheran, etc... What's important is your relationship to Christ. In the latter days, evil rises and so does good to fight the evil. Also, people are proud of what they should be ashamed of. There will also be an increase of scoffers and mockers of Christianity. The Gospel of Christ will be spread to the world, people will travel to and fro, trading will be done as never before, there will be an increase of knowledge as not seen since the beginning of time, Israel will get its country back, Israel will get Jerusalem back, people will marry and give in marriage. The generation that sees the reestablishment of Israel as a nation will see the end. What is a generation? To me, it is a 100 years. Sounds about right. (And who cares what Rosie O'Donnell says? I'm sick of hearing from her worse than I am of looking at her and I NEVER thought I would say that.)

Pastor Billy says: sorry I got here so late I was sleeping. Onto the question, rejoice in your persecution for the greater it is the more evidence you have of Catholicism being God's real Church. Find the book Anti-Catholicism, America's last allowable prejudice written by Masse.

The Media like CNN attacks Catholicism because Catholicism stands for something like marriage, peace, love and truth. Jesus is truth, the media is sensationalism, indifferentism, atheistism etc etc...

Rosie O'd has multiple problems we all know this now, she has admitted it herself, she suffers from depression.

As for Jill why is it fallen away Catholics like to think that is their claim to fame? Why does being a ex-Catholic make one an expert? Obviously it doesn't it only proves you didn't know your faith and/or you had a personal issue which conflicted with the Churches teaching on truth such as no sex outside marriage, fidelity in marriage, no divorce from a valid marriage etc etc... Pray for persons like Jill they've taken the longer road be prepared to welcome them home some day.

I used to be Catholic, but long ago questioned some of their practices which are man-made, not Bible based. Still, bashing any religion is unfair all the way around. If people have questions about someone's beliefs, they should ask in an intelligent, adult way and expect a respectful reply. We learn from each other that way. I also get frustrated by those who waste the time of others who check answers, and have to read a lot of unintelligent responses.

We're supposed to love each other. We obviously all don't agree. We're individuals. God has called all of us, but few respond. If someone doesn't get it, it doesn't give them the right to trash those who do. God bless you!

In these United States, it is no longer politically acceptable to bash others due to race or sexual orientation, so Catholics are really the only group left to bash.

And since Catholics are without doubt, heir to all the promises of Christ, all the Catholic bashing serves to prove the truth of his prophetic words:

John 15:18 If the world hate you, know ye that it hath hated me before you.
John 15:19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you ....

I have been accused of being a catholic basher, but I really am not. I come as love in Christ. I use to be catholic but I left the catholics and renounced the catholic religion because I was being deceived just as you are. Why won't the catholics just accept that Mary and the rest of the saints are dead and cannot do anything for them? They cannot pray for you or ask God for anything for you. They are dead and had their own sins to be forgiven. John 14:6 is very clear when Jesus tells that He is the ONLY way to the Father! Don't catholics believe Jesus? Also, Mary is also not the way to Jesus. All she was, was the woman God chose to give birth to Jesus. Even Mary had to ask Jesus to forgive her sins and also she had other children. She is NOT above Jesus! Did you also know that a statue of Mary will not protect you? It is just a piece ceramic that is painted, you know the graven images and idols that are forbidden in the Ten Commandments? Well, this would be considered one, so why do you catholics disobey God? Also show me one verse, just ONE VERSE in the Bible where it says that God was catholic and that He expects all of us to be catholic too! He didn't. In fact we are not required to even be any religion. The Bible also says not to call any man your father, but what do the catholics call their priest? Again, disobedience to God! Show me a verse where it says to use a rosary and pray repetitiouse prayers? God wants to hear from you personally through Jesus Christ, not a bunch of written down prayers that he has heard a million times before. Last but not least, why doesn't the catholic church teach salvation through Jesus Christ, such as in John 3:3 where Jesus says that we must be born again to see the kingdom of God. Again, why don't the catholics believe Jesus when he says this? And also you don't need a priest to hear your sins. he cannot forgive himself of his own sins so how can he forgive yours.
These are just a few reasons I left the catholic church. I am now a born again Bible believing Christian. I follow only the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I pray to God through Jesus Christ. I truely have a relationship with God through Jesus and the lost feeling I had as a catholic is now fulfilled. You should try it, as it will enlighten you a great deal.

EDIT: John 14:6 where Jesus says that NO ONE comes to the Father except through Him (Jesus)
This means you, me, and all the priests, etc. This includes Mary, even though she is dead and cannot hear you.

EDIT: "A faithful witness will not lie: But a false witness will utter
lies" Proverbs 14:5.
I think this is you, Jill, because I believe you know better about the statue thing.

Just what do you really think this verse means? A faithful witness is saved by the blood of Jesus Christ and follows the truth out of the Bible and only tells the truth of what is in it as I have told you. A false witness is basically anyone who is not saved and not following scripture like most religions don't. The pope and Joseph Smith are fine examples of false prophets. When the pope ever gets up and teaches salvation through Jesus Christ, and becomes saved himself, I will then listen. No, I don't hate anyone. To hate is to murder and murder is to kill and that is against the Ten Commandments. I just don't like the way the catholics are being decieved. Most of them are very innocent people and don't deserve to be lied to by the church. They all deserve a chance to learn the truth and become saved through Jesus Christ. Here is a website I thought I would share with you. This is just one of many I studied from before renouncing the catholic religion. Read the catholic articles.

To understand this we need to refer to the Gospel where Jesus made this astounding comment, `` Thou art Cephas(rock) and upon this `Rock` I will build My church and the gates of Hell will not prevail agaisnt it``
This statement means that Hell would attack the true church until the end of time and although it will not defeat the church it will try to do whatever it can to bring it down.
Now here is something very hard to accept in relation to this,if you are attacking the Catholic church then you are doing the work of Satan and you need to repent and cease from this.
