No I don't think the government should fear the people. We are, after all, the government... as much as that rankles. I do think we need, as the society at large, to start taking more of an active participation in the running of our communities. Many yrs. ago we had a civil defense program that was in every town and village. It required the inclusion of each person to make it work. Yes, I know we're very busy and the thought of taking on more responsibility is not an easy one but neither is turning over our decision making to just a few. That doesn't seem to be working. Too much special interest.

I don't agree that people are 'passive' with the government.
I think it's more apathy. Which basically means that a state of lack of interest has set in driven by the fact that nobody in the government seems to care about the common person anymore... and only about how they can line their pockets.
And unfortunately it goes both ways, democrat and republican a lot of times.
I think there are good people left that want to serve... but they may be few and far between and overruled by those that are out to only serve themselves more often than not.
Certainly MORE people in America need to pay much closer attention to what is going on in Washington DC, vote.. and put the right people in office and maybe that would help.

Is it a cliche to blame the media? Indirectly at least.
People want to be entertained. So they hang out in front of the TV complaining about the way things are.... assuming that someone else will fix everything. Change the channel and just as quickly... we're in another dull daydream.
I recommend shock treatment for all!

I don't think government should fear the people. I think government should be accountable to the people. Very often it is not. It would take more than just more voting to change this. People need to become informed about what government is doing and how it affects them. They need to write letters not only to politicians but also to newspapers. They need to go on TV to bring public attention to serious problems. And they need to change their negative thinking about whether they can by effective.

Money talks. The days of values and principles have become dinosaurs, housed in history museums! ;-) Even saving babies create profits... especially for the Charity organizations, foster care homes, and for tthe adoption operations. Babies will probably become the only Made-in-USA commodities of the future and create good profits for those collecting them for distribution. Probably, that's why so little is done to discourage unprotected sex, and so much is done to encourage sex pleasures, such as the ongoing adverts about Viagra on TV.

Goverments do not rule peoples minds or thoughts. Wouldn't it be a better world if we just learned to respect each other; no matter what..?..

Theme Park culture, the public education and get a job systems, Fluoridation, failure of parents to teach fundamentals (respect, constitution, love one another), economic inflation, loss of neighborhood and community identity. IRS and capitulating employers, acceptance that "they came for someone else, today." Tower of Babel.

Many are too involved with just trying to keep their heads above water. It's a shame-they could still find time to email or call Legislators.
