In order to maintain your weight eat 15 calories per pound of your weight.
So to lose weight take in less calories per pound of weight than 15 per pound.
Example
In order to maintain 140 pounds you should eat 2100 calories. (15 X 140)
To lose weight go with something closer to 1800 calories.
You should of course exercise and if you do eat more calories just remember to burn off more than you ate.

Teenagers should eat anywhere from 2500 to 3500 calories a day. It does seem like a lot but your metabolism is much higher right now than it will be at any other point in your life. If you want to lose weight by cutting calories you should only cut out about 500 calories a day. So try eating 2000 calories a day and exercise. See how that works for a few weeks. You should not lose more than 2 pounds per week. If you feel like you can cut a few more calories then do so. You should never starve yourself though! And make sure you eat breakfast! It jumpstarts your metabolism and if you eat protein (such as eggs) it keeps you fuller for longer.

Good luck!

Hi,

I've tried so many different diets in the last 10 years that I can say now, they don't work!
A few months ago, I came across a great product for weight loss and like many others I was skeptical about it. But I really wanted to lose weight and I tried it. The results were excellent and I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. I felt fantastic and I dropped another 5 pounds safely. That's why I recommend you check this product at
http://www.getin2it.info where they have a free trial and you only pay 6.95$ shipping and handling.
Good luck!

amount of calories needed depends on your sex, age, height, weight and activity level - there is no one number for everybody
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

As a rule of thumb, every 10 calories that you don't eat per day, is one pound lost per year.

Conversely, if you consume 10 extra calories every day, you will gain 1 pound per year.

i.e. one can of regular soda extra, per day, will make you 10 pounds heavier every year.

About 2K calories. Also depends on how active you are. The calories should be ingested over the day don't binge eat them...you know small breakfast, big lunch, small dinner. Should also include snacks....more you eat more you burn.
