To prevent most of the America bashing that occurs in Yahoo Answer. After serving the US you may not agree with everything it does but when you EXPERIENCE and WITNESS many of the alternatives there are many more +s then -s. I know it profoundly changed my life, I am very grateful for the opportunity previous generations have provided for us.

If we stop being the world police, than I would say yes. If we keep getting into all these wars, battles, etc, people will revolt and you'd have another revolution in your hand...on the other, I think this would be a great idea because it will help young people's get a better understanding how the military and government work, as well as become good citizens of the nation. Discipline is seriously lacking nowadays.

It is not discriminatory. We drafted in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. For most of our wars we habe had a national service requirement. The fact that we're too weak as a nation to enact one today underscores a much bigger crack in our foundation and is why we heading in the direction we are.

Yes, it's your country and it needs all our help. There's a lot that needs to be taken care of: people, roads, parks, forests and on and on. It's an old saw but still true, when the citizens of Rome became too good to serve their country, the empire collapsed. JFK phrased it pretty good in his "Ask not" speech. Unfortunately the majority think service to their country is old-fashioned. I spent many years overseas, believe me, our country is something special. It's worth caring for...

we shouldnt have that thing at all. Its discriminatory for real its legalized discrimination. i cant believe why idiot groups like the aclu havent tried to change it. last time i heard there was supposed to be this thing called the era. women are on the front lines rite now as we speak. but what they aint good enough to sign that peace of paper like the government says guys gotta do. if guys gotta do then so should the gals. there is absolutely no reason the gals shouldnt if i was a woman and one of these feminist ppl this thing would make me pissed
