When I run anytime before two to three hours after eating, I get these painful cramps in my lower left abdomen. I know that excercise can cause stomach cramping just after eating, for example, about ten or twenty minutes after eating, but is it normal to still have cramping after two to two and a half hours? Thanks.

Unless you're eating a ton, it's not the food; it's your diaphragm. It's not in shape yet, and gets strained from the exertion. In time, it will clear up, but in the moment try changing the tempo of your breathing. A few quick breaths followed by not breathing. If you do some irregular breathing, it gives the diaphragm a chance to clear the lactic acid out and stop hurting.

This helped me get through the pain during mile 12 of a marathon in Plattsburgh, NY a very long time ago.

I agree w/ the last answer from the cat gal/guy.....it is your diaphragm. I use to get this often too when I first started running. I tried everything from deep breathing to not eating and the only thing that helped was time....they eventually went away and I very rarely ever get them. I think it just takes your body a while to adjust to the up and down motion of running. Someone once told me if I do get a cramp while running to stick two fingers up into my rib cage as far as I could where the cramping is and hold it for a sec......I suppose this helps relax the diaphragm. It does seem to help a bit. Also concentrate on your breathing. Take deep breathes in and out while the cramping is occuring...often they will just go away if you run through them. I'm not too sure about holding your breath though, as the last person mentioned.

Good luck...I'm sure they will go away w/ time.

It depends on what you eat and how sensitive you are. Some people can eat and run and some people can not run for 4 or 5 hours after they eat. I you are doing this keep track of what you eat, and how much and see if it is something in particular or anything at all that you eat.

Yep, you need to adjust your schedule so you don't run so soon after eating. But be sure to concentrate on your stretches before and after also. Get your abdominals ready with some good stretches for the waist area (different positions, etc.).

Another good idea is to concentrate on good breathing techniques - long deep controlled breathing in and out will help.

Good Luck

It's extra more often than not referred to as a aspect sew. If you appear it up with that terminology, you can get bigger reasons of what's going on and why. And if you are staying hydrated and bouncing whilst you run or some thing like that, your accelerated hydration would truthfully be growing their incidence. It's additionally style of a ordinary newbie hindrance, in particular whilst you are nonetheless operating on kind, and many others.

It's quite possible. The Vampire Skunk has always believed that running is not a very healthy form of exercise - it wears out your knees and ankle joints slowly but surely, and is besides too strenuous. Walking is the perfect exercise. Downside is finding the time to do it.
